Each month, normally on the third Saturday of the month, a member will volunteer to host the meeting at their house (or workshop in some cases) and they or another member will volunteer to teach the ‘Make-n-Take’ leaving everyone with a working item and the knowledge of how to do it again!
We also occasionally get to go on group tours of interesting haunted or haunt-related facilities and do other activities to promote our favorite holiday. For example, we are annual participants in the Bay Area Maker Faire, where we get to show people how all the other gizmos and gadgets on display at the Faire can be used for something fun and entertaining. Come see our How-To-Haunt in the side wing of the Fiesta Building! (zone 3 on the map)
Are you new to the group? Here are a few things to help you dig in with the rest of the haunters.
1. Find yourself in the Groups.io directory, and add a little information about yourself. A profile photo and a hint as to the name you actually want to be called as your “Display Name”.
2. Introduce yourself. In Groups.io, click New Topic and write a message that starts with “My name is ____, and I’m a haunter.” Tell us about your haunt. What kinds of haunt knowledge you have and what areas you’d like to learn more about.
3. Ask questions on the list. “Help! Spray paint keeps flaking off of my pool noodle vines” will get you lots of responses. A few of them may be useful.
4. Watch for a Make & Take announcement that interests you, RSVP, and go try it out.
5. Get your haunt or display listed on the directory/map of member haunts that we publish each Halloween season. Take advantage of the map to visit other members’ haunts on their preview nights.
6. Attend the November recap meeting.
7. Get yourself some Norcal Haunters T-shirts (or aprons!). Don’t know how? Sounds like a great opportunity to ask on the list.
Lurking is fine, too. But I think many lurkers who later get more active with the group regret not having gotten more involved sooner.
